Most typhoons hit Taiwan during July to September, aka summer time! But with global warming, it seems that typhoon is not so predictable anymore, anyways, no matter when you plan to visit Taiwan, you should be aware of this article.

What is TYPHOON? (Misspelling of Tycoon? ...not funny)

A typhoon is a type of large storm system with a circular or spiral system of violent winds. It's actually the same thing as a hurricane in the States or a cyclone in the U.K

What you SHOULD NOT DO ?

As most travelers are probably here for outdoor activities, when a typhoon occurs,

PLEASE STAY INDOOR!

No swimming, no surfing, no treking, no camping !

You should definitely avoid mountains, coastal areas, and beaches.

If you’re in the mountains before the upcoming typhoon, you should head down immediately.

Also, a kind reminder, east coast is usually hit harder than any other areas in Taiwan.

So you’ll need to prepare more if you’re at east coast.

If you’re in a city like Taipei, it’s probably not that scary during a typhoon, but still, don’t go shopping or ride scooters during a typhoon.

According to Taiwanese Secrets

Here’s an awesome description of…

What does it feel like to be in a typhoon in Taiwan?

“If it's a big one, you'll definitely feel it no matter if you're indoor or outdoor.

From the "comfort" of your house or apartment, you'll hear the strong wind howl around your building and the rain batter the metal roofs of older houses in the neighborhood.

If you're outside, you'll have a very clear idea of what it must be like inside a dishwasher.”

What you SHOULD DO?

- Monitor weather news and updates

- Chill with your Netflix, buy beer, instant noodles, and water. (You’ll need water for instant noodles, or maybe other uses when the water system is cut or polluted by mud)

-Tape your windows in an X to avoid strong winds that might break the window.

-Make sure there's electricity in your flashlights.

-Keep electronic devices from windows because waters might push under the windows, even when they’re closed.

It’s never too much to prepare for a typhoon, a typhoon usually don’t last long, so no worries. Stay calm, and enjoy your typhoon days in Taiwan.
